“I do not sing because I’m happy, I’m happy because I sing.” William James
Workshops & pop-ups…
I have run many Pop-Up Choirs over the years, here’s what past participants said:
“It was such fun, amazing how you got us all singing so many songs in such a short space of time”
“It was fun and great to meet so many lovely people in such a beautiful venue.
You obviously had put a lot of hard work into the day and I really enjoyed your choice of songs”
“What a great day we had. The songs and singing were lovely and the venue delightful-thanks so much. Can’t wait for the next one!”
I have regularly run one-day themed ’Pop-Up’ choirs since 2011. These one-day singalongs have included Les Miserables, The Lion King, The Sound Of Music, Oliver!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat, Follow The Star, Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing and more.
More recently these have taken place at the beautiful grounds of Manor House School in Bookham. Singers gather for a morning cuppa and registration then straight into warm-ups and getting into voice parts. I enlist the help of jazz pianist, Meredith White along with professional singers to help each voice-part group learn and sing their melody or harmony.
At lunchtime, if the weather is warm and dry the participants gather in the gardens under gazebos to enjoy their lunch, to chat about the songs and their singing experiences and make new friends! After another cuppa, it’s back to work inside to learn more songs and their harmonies and a big round-up sing-together of all the songs they have learned throughout the day.
It is such an enjoyable day, perhaps challenging in places but everyone comes away with a smile on their lips and a song in their heart. Watch this space for news on the next Pop-Up choir and be the first to know when the dates are announced.
